Let us know if you ever end up giving a presentation or discussion about this stuff. I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd like to talk with you about this topic.

I'm ironing out kinks in my shoulder, and then I'll be able to illustrate this rain barrel setup like I did with the first one. Just keeping everyone posted. :)

And we appreciate it. To be honest, I'd love to talk to someone or someones who have thought about this rationally and taken a realistic approach to the catastrophic scenarios we're living through and on the threshold of entering. As a lifelong city dweller it is honestly difficult to get my brain to accept that there are steps that I need to take if I want a modicum of dignity as institutions collapse. Its hard not to feel crazy when everyone around you seems to be acting as if it is all business as usual. Regardless, I know you're doing good work with these posts. Thank you.

I think the 'range' to think about falls in between Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower or Stirling's 'Dies the Fire'. But then I grew up on Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle which used an asteroid to stress everyone out.

Thank you, Jessica. I’d better get a rain barrel.

There's a list of places, but we went with Epoch. They have a good reputation. Nice barrels, come with everything preinstalled (a nice bonus since we were already putting a ton of work into the foundation, etc). They arrived very clean. You can definitely save money doing the holes and spigots yourself, but it's enough work...

We're finishing the final connections this weekend, then I'm going to start writing it all up.

A picture or a schematic drawing would be nice. Substack seems to be blocking such things presently.

All of this brought on by greed and the fossil fuel industry

Nice piece. A realistic, healthy attitude!

I think true hope and positivity come from an acknowledgement of reality. You have to earn it, and I think we do--around here. :)

From what I’ve read of your writing I think you’ve earned it as well. Be kind and keep the fun up around the home.

This is how I've always felt about that:

[O]ther people’s actions are beyond my control. I can’t shoot them. If I shoot them, I have to bury them somewhere. Once you start shooting people, I think it’s over. It’s only a matter of time before someone overpowers you.

I love your positivity. So many are going to be in schock as they do not see what is happening now. I look at my grandkids 17 and 5 and I worry about them. Parents are too busy to see the world as it is, thankfully the are on a farm. Not a working farm but might be sooner than they think. Stay safe out there! I am in Canada trying to breathe through this hazardous smoke wondering what town next. Take care!

Sunlight reacts with wildfire smoke to form benzene and formaldehyde. PPM levels over 500 in northeast Ohio. This is Cleveland meteorologist Mark Johnson narrating his drive in to work.

20 years - a really good number. Due to our age and limitations, 5 years would be great. Rock on, Jessica!
